Eckhart Elementary regularly monitors the childrens' skills in math and reading. Reading skills are assessed every two weeks using the DIBELS assessment tool. In addition to that, students are assessed three times during the year using DIBELS to ensure that students are performing at benchmark or at grade level.
Students are assessed three times a year on their math skills using the NWEA Math assessment tool to ensure that they are performing at grade level as well. On occasion, students who require math intervention are progress monitored using NWEA in math.
First grade students are assessed three times per year in reading NWEA. Teachers also monitor student achievement through the use of end of unit tests from the Reading and Math series, a collection of writing samples, and/or a portfolio/running record of the student's progress throughout the school year.
Because of this meticulous system of monitoring student achievement, our kindergarten and first grade students are performing at an overall average of 83% at grade level in reading. Eckhart is very proud of the success that our students are demonstrating in all areas of social and academic achievement.
