Eckhart Elementary School: Educational Programs

Eckhart Elementary has six full day kindergarten classes and six first grade classes. We have seen great gains in our students reading performance since we began a 1 1/2 hour uninterrupted reading block.

We are also in our second year teaching the 2007 edition of the Everyday Math Program. Everyday Math provides an enhanced and balanced curriculum that is consistent throughout the grades and spirals from grade to grade.

The instructional design is built on student interest and maximizes learning through a variety of activities. First grade students are exposed to several academic blocks such as Social Studies, Health, Art, Gym, and Science.

Students at Eckhart Elementary receive 30 minutes of specials for 12 weeks, rotating 3 times a year. During this time, they get exposure to the "Text Talk" program during library, and are learning to use Microsoft Word as well as other educational games and programs in the computer lab.

During the year our students are involved in a Nutrition Program, Pet Program, Hand Washing Program, Family Literacy Night Program, Dental Program, and Fire Safety Program.
