Trinidad Middle School: Assessment

Our Mission is to—Engage, Educate and Empower Trinidad Middle School has much to celebrate! Trinidad Middle School has been celebrating its success since the 2008 CSAP results were released in early summer. Significant gains were made in regards to 8th grade math and science achievement. In 2008 only 19 students scored unsatisfactory in mathematics compared to 33 students that scored unsatisfactory in 2007. Science scores also showed gains as well between 2007 and 2008 results in the unsatisfactory category, m 2007, 35 students scored unsatisfactory as compared to 19 students in 2008!

Another celebration of success includes academic growth using the new Colorado Growth Model. The model measures the growth of students from one CSAP administration to the next and at the same time compares their growth to other students in the same category. Trinidad Middle School exceeded the state median percentile of 50 or higher in the areas of reading, writing, and math. TMS grades and content areas that exceeded the state percentile were as follows: 6th grade—Reading 53 and Math 61; 7th grade—Reading Writing 55 and Math 72; and 8th grade—Reading 58. These areas of success were achieved through the hard work of students and staff at TMS.

Teachers are consistently making strides in student achievement by making data driven decisions to guide instruction, providing differentiated instruction and progress monitoring to ensure that all students succeed. In addition to CSAP, a wide variety of other assessments are used to monitor each student’s progress. These include NWEA, STAR Reading, STAR Math, Accelerated Reading, Accelerated Math, and a wide variety of other standardized literacy assessments. Teacher made assessments are also used. The Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test is used to help identify gifted and talented students.
