This past week two students from Trinidad High School competed at the FCCLA National Leader Conference in Washington DC. In April, Serenity Samora and Brianna Sandoval placed 1st in Colorado for Public Policy Advocate, which qualified them to compete at the national level.
For their project they advocated for available and affordable housing in Trinidad. While preparing for their project they went on the radio, made stickers, hosted mic talks, and volunteered at the warming center to spread awareness about this local issue.
While we don't have the official score of their project yet, Serenity and Brianna's project received at least 90/100 points as they received a gold medal.
While at the conference Serenity and Brianna also got to go to leadership workshops, listen to red talks, and connect with students from all over the country. When we had free time outside of the conference we went and saw the Smithsonian Zoo, the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, and the National Mall.
